What is a Late Rent Notice Form?

A late rent form is filled out by the landlord and issued to the tenant if their rent is past the due date. It is a letter requesting the tenant to clear their rental dues.

The rent period and amount are typically mentioned in the lease agreement that is signed by both the landlord and the tenant. When the tenant fails to complete their legal obligation as per the lease agreement, the landlord writes and signs the Late Rent Notice to alert the tenant.

Information required on a Late Rent Notice Form

A late rent notice form requires the name and address details of the tenant so that the notice reaches the right doorstep. The landlord also needs to mention the amount of rent due, the due date, and the number of days since the rent is due.

If the lease agreement has the clause of late fees, the landlord also needs to mention that in the Late Rent Notice Form so as to give the tenant a clear amount that is due from their end.

It is also imperative to mention the address on which the tenant can write back to the landlord. To give a benefit of the doubt to the tenant, the landlord again mentions the name and other details on which the tenant can send the amount due.

How to Fill Out a Late Rent Notice Form

A Late Rent Notice is comparatively a very simple form. It requires the same details that have already been filled in the Rental Application Form and the Lease Agreement Form. It can be filled online as well as offline based on the specifications as per the lease agreement. Since digitally filled documents and e-signatures are legally permissible, it will be quite convenient to download the form from an authorized website and use it for the purpose.

A standard Late Rent Notice Form looks like below.

  • Start by writing the date on top of the form against the blank space. It is a crucial step since it will define how many days past the due date the form is being sent to the tenant.
  • Write the name(s) of the tenant(s) next (if there are more than one)
  • Fill in the complete address of the property. This will ensure that the mail reaches the right address.

  • Also specify the amount pending for each period, individually.
  • In the last part, write the date, name, address, and other details on which the tenant can send the pending amount.

What is the Late Rent Notice Form Used for?

As per the name, the form is generally issued when the rent payment from the tenant is past the due date. This form works as a gentle reminder to the tenant before taking more serious actions. In some cases, depending on the understanding between the landlord and the tenant, the due date can be extended as a one-time exception and the tenant can be given a grace period.

The form is a legal document and it should always have the correct information on it. Therefore, cautiousness while filling it out is advised.
